Google Business Profile check – in 2 minutes

Nine questions about your Google Business Profile, then a traffic-light score and the three steps that help most. Based on Google’s guidelines and Whitespark’s expert survey “Local Search Ranking Factors 2026”. Everything happens in your browser – nothing is sent or stored.

1. Does your primary category match your main business exactly?

For example “Electrician” rather than “Electrical supply store”, “Roofing contractor” rather than “Construction company”.

2. Have you added secondary categories for your other services?

For example “Solar energy system service” in addition to “Electrician” – only for work you really do.

3. Is your profile name exactly your real business name?

As on your sign, letterhead and invoices – without added keywords such as “24/7 Emergency Plumber Austin”.

4. Are your hours complete and current, including holidays?

Google tends to favor businesses that are open at the time of the search.

5. Is your address or service area right, and is the map pin exactly in place?

The pin on the map should sit on your business, not in the middle of the street.

6. Is your average rating 4.5 stars or higher?
7. Do new reviews with text come in regularly (at least one a month)?

Reviews with text count for more than stars alone.

8. Do you reply to reviews – including critical ones?
9. Does each of your main services have its own page on your website?

In the survey this is one of the most important points for AI search (ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews).

Bonus question: when a customer calls from your profile while you are on a job – does anyone pick up?

Not a ranking factor. But this is where a call becomes a job – or doesn’t.

Answer all nine questions and your result appears here.

Where the questions come from

Google does not publish weightings. The order comes from the annual survey “Local Search Ranking Factors” by Whitespark (2026 edition, around 47 local search experts). At the top are the primary category, proximity, keywords in the business name, an address in the city searched and “open at the time of search”. Keywords in the name only help if they are genuinely part of your business name – anything else is against Google’s guidelines. You cannot influence how close a searcher is, so proximity is not part of this check.
